Mayor of London Backs Plan for Northern Line Extension

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has given his official backing to plans to extend the Northern Line, which would see the redevelopment of Battersea power station as a a new key train station.

The works, estimated to cost a total of £500m, are a part of a greater scheme of redevelopment in North London, and shall be funded in part by private developers, who will also in vest in new residental works and local amenities.

Johnson, who has championed improvement of London’s transport infrastructure since becoming mayor in 2008, and in his manifesto for the same year states that “our challenge … is to make our transport system better to improve our quality of life.”

It is expected that the area will also include cycle provision, which would suit the city’s commitment to developing fully sustainable transport infrastructure.
